It is my hope that this list will be a
nearly complete casualty list regarding Nordic pilots and crewmembers in
Allied services in World War 2, |
but also a list that shows all the
aircraft types that was destroyed (red) or damaged (blue) by involved Nordic
pilots and crewmembers. |
As you can see it is surpisingly how high
the losses were, specially in the last 10 months of the war. Nearly 300
Nordic pilots and crew- |
members gave their life in the struggle
for freedom, sadly most of them is forgotten to day. Some of this fighting
"warriors" died due to just |
unluck, some as an act of sheer stupidity
or cowardice, but most of them just lost their life doing their duty for
their country. |
Danes is marked with (dk) and Swedes with
(sw) behind the names and no marks for Norwegian. Only one Icelander is to be
found, however |
no Finnis are known. Additionally to the
Royal Air Force (RAF), Pilots and crewmembers from the Royal Norwegian Air
Force (RNAF), |
Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF), South
African Air Force (SAAF) and British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) are
also included. |
This list is not yet necessary accurate
and may be wrong about Dates, Places, Names, Fates etc etc |

This day the North Weald Wing was on a Rodeo and was
according to a German report headed |
across the Somme Estuary at high altitude. Elements of JG 26
had scrambled earlier from airfield |
Vitry at 18:16 led by Oblt. Otto Stammberger (6.) a
Staffelkapitän from II./JG 26 and headed west, |
The Germans then engaged the surprised Norwegians at 9400
meters (31.00 feet) over Dieppe. |
Ltn Stammberger outturned his target and hit it in the wings
with a highdeflection shot. The Spitfire |
burst into flames and spun out, crashing near Dieppe. There
were no other casualities. |
